Do I license or patent or what??

How do I go about licensing or patenting on an application that I had the idea with and worked with a programmer and designed it to my specs? It wont be used on the apple store, but will be used on an iphone. Basically I would sell the rights or software to a company and they could put it on there website for download to their employees. Thanks ahead of time for the help or suggestions. There are numerous companies that are in the market for what I have and spent a lot of time designing it and making it just so. Just need to know where to go from here.
